The September 2009 Georgia floods affected several counties in and around metro Atlanta and left more than 20,000 homes, businesses and other buildings damaged by the floods. And much of the next 24 hours for Curtis Mosley Jr. would be a major turning point in his life.

"Where was I going to stay? I had lost everything except what was in the back of my truck. This was my home and it was taken from me in the blink of an eye," Mosley said.

As Mosley began the grueling task of seeking federal aid and filling out the rigorous paperwork from his insurance company, he also reached out to the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Employees' Reaching Out Club (LM AERO).

Since the floods, Mosley has moved into a new home and continues to give to the LM AERO Club. He plans to increase his donation also.

"I am the product of what "good" can happen when you donate to the LM Aero club," he said. "Blessings come in a lot of different ways and you don't know when or why something happens. My new house is almost double the size of my flooded home. I like it," Mosley said chuckling.

Over the last nine months, Mosley has been back to visit his former subdivision several times. Some of his neighbors who were not hit as hard as Mosley have begun the process of rebuilding their homes.

"I remember walking toward my old house and my stomach started turning. It's still kind of surreal. Almost like, I can't believe I was living there," said Mosley describing his memory.

Curtis Mosely’s house was one of 20,000 homes, businesses and other buildings destroyed in the September 2009 Georgia floods.

Mosley doesn't view the flooding of his home as a tragedy but more like a blessing.

"The last nine months have been a roller coaster of emotions for me. I have been lucky enough to have many people in my corner helping me out and I am grateful to all of them. I have had coworkers donate clothes, shoes, and a few of my fellow firefighters took up a collection of money and gave it to me," he said.

When asked what was next for him, Mosley's response was said with a smile, "Making my new house a home, one room at a time!"
